Our Story
Left In Stitches has been a Humboldt County business since its inception in 2001 in Arcata, California.
Even though my dream job was to work as a National Park interpretive ranger, I fell back to skills developed early in life. A love of sewing from my mom and an engineering background from my father led me to my lifelong career. We were truly the first textile design and development company in the US to offer services to small business and startups. In the early 2000’s, almost all textile production facilities only fulfilled large orders and did not offer design or development.
Our goal has always been to provide the best service and quality products to our clients whether they are an individual with an idea or a large company with complex needs. In 2017 I bought the old Eel River Tile building in Fortuna, CA. The antique building had become rundown and blighted. Two years later (after numerous public and city meetings, environmental studies, building permit applications, and a total remodel) it has now become a beautiful hand hewn redwood structure where we operate our current facilities.
45 years of experience in this industry has allowed us to cultivate a huge network of vendors, contractors, and professional services. This gives us the ability to keep the work in the United States, predominately in California. Our country, like many others, has been built upon small businesses and working with these small companies has been very fulfilling.
Our workload and capacities are constantly changing and this has been reflected in the services that we offer. Upcycling of fabric scraps into dresses, garment alterations, and clothing repairs allow us to keep our company environmentally conscious.
